Fighting HIV Stigma

One pair at a time

Every 47 Minutes

a woman tests positive for HIV in the United States

11% of women living with HIV do not know they are infected. 1 in 48 Black women will be diagnosed with HIV in her lifetime. It’s time for those numbers to come down, and we’re here to make sure that they do.

Who We Are

The Red Pump Project® is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate women and girls of color about HIV through bold programming and digital initiatives.

Since March 2009, we’ve been rocking red shoes to grab your attention and boldly state that Awareness is Always in Style.

What We Do

We educate them on the facts, encouraging them to get tested and having sex that is safe.

We drive conversation around HIV to normalize it and erase the stigmas surrounding it.

We empower women and girls to take ownership of their bodies without shame, by providing them with culturally-relevant and accurate HIV education and safe spaces.

Our Impact

The Red Pump Project® by the Numbers:

Women and Girls

have been reached by our Cupcakes & Condoms programs held in 19 cities

Safer sex kits & products

have been distributed to promote health and awareness

learned about HIV/STI prevention and how to advocate for their health, thanks to our initiatives

These are the numbers we are on a mission to increase!

Tell Your Story

Behind the statistics are real women with inspiring stories of strength and courage that deserve to be told. If you or someone you know has been impacted by HIV, we want to hear from you.
