The Red Pump Project® will honor Valerie L. Rochester during the 3rd Annual Red Summer Soiree with the 2016 Ultimate Red Pump Rocker Award for her dedication to HIV advocacy in the Washington, DC area. The Red Summer Soiree, held on Saturday, June 18, is one of The Red Pump Project’s signature events and is an annual benefit brunch commemorating National HIV Testing Day.
The Red Pump Project raises awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls and uses the Red Pump as a symbol of empowerment to represent the strength and courage of women affected by HIV/AIDS. The Red Summer Soiree helps to further that mission each year by honoring prominent women leaders in the community. Rochester was chosen as the 2016 recipient because she is a shining example of what Red Pump represents. She is a longtime public health professional with more than 25 years of experience and currently serves as Director of Programs and Training with the Black Women’s Health Imperative, where she manages the organization’s national and community-level health programs portfolio to address health inequities among Black women and girls. She guides the organization’s response to the priority health issues of HIV, breast and cervical cancer, sexual and reproductive health, and obesity related conditions.
The Red Summer Soiree is not only a fundraiser for Red Pump’s programs and initiatives in the nation’s capital, but it is an afternoon filled with social justice and empowerment, featuring a gourmet brunch with unlimited mimosas, entertainment and networking. It’s a celebration of those who continue to fight against HIV/AIDS and how it affects women and girls, with particular emphasis on minorities.
This year the soiree will be held at Cities Restaurant and Lounge (1909 K Street, Washington, DC 20006) on June 18 from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. General admission is $55.00 per person. Dress code is stylish and red pumps/red ties are strongly encouraged. Tickets are available online at www.redsummersoiree.eventbrite.com. VIP and group tickets are also available for purchase.
